FOOD & BEER FESTIVALS - 2009

Bishop Wilton Show, which is one of the oldest shows in the region, is to offer its support to local food producers by hosting two new events:

Yorkshire Food Festival

This will feature some of the very best local produce from across the county and will cover a wide range of foods such as cheeses, meats, sausages, pies, savouries, cakes and preserves.

Yorkshire Beer Festival

This will be accommodated within the traditional bar area.  With a selection of at least 10 different real ales from across the Yorkshire region.  Come and enjoy some of Yorkshire's best real ales whilst watching the wide range of entertainment in the Main Ring.

Supporting Local Producers

Now in its 111th year, the Show has historically had strong links with local farmers and food producers.  As Show secretary Edward Hutchinson explains “We now want to strengthen that heritage still further by making a concerted effort to support local producers.  Particularly in this current economic climate, we feel it is really important to encourage people to buy locally and therefore we are pleased to be able to offer a shop window to local businesses - if only for a day.  We already have a good number of Yorkshire producers signed up for the festival but anyone else wishing to get involved is welcome to get in touch.”

The Show's annual attendance is approximately 3,000 and last year, despite the inclement weather, was the best yet.  Mr Hutchinson says he is confident this year will be even better.  “We are confident the Yorkshire Food Festival and Yorkshire Beer Festival, which is another new addition, will be great crowd pullers.  Bishop Wilton Show is already a great and inexpensive day out for the whole family with attractions, sports and events to interest everyone.  Now we’ve got local producers added into the mix it can only get even better.”
