SourcesIndividual items in other sections identify specific material used for reference purposes. This section lists some of the common sources like libraries, newspapers and books: THE HOWDENSHIRE CHRONICLE AND POCKLINGTON WEEKLY NEWS - Editions of this newspaper, from 1895 to 1939 (with the exception of 1898), can be consulted on microfilm at the Beverley Local Studies Library. References to Bishop Wilton abound. BEVERLEY LOCAL STUDIES LIBRARY - Maps, newspapers, census returns and books relating to the historic East Riding of Yorkshire at Champney Road, Beverley, HU17 8HE. EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE ARCHIVES SERVICE - copious historic records of the East Riding. Notably the East Riding Register of Deeds, 1708 to March 1974, containing summaries of property deeds and copies of enclosure awards and wills involving property. Also, enclosure acts and awards for Bishop Wilton and surrounding townships. Currently closed until it reopens early in 2007 in a new building. You can find out more here. BORTHWICK INSTITUTE - at the University of York. This is where you can consult the parish records along with other documents relating to Bishop Wilton. You can find out more here. RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HULL - A multitude of old documents relating to Bishop Wilton can be consulted at the University of Hull in the Archives Reading Room at the Brynmor Jones Library after first applying to the University Archivist in writing. Visits may subsequently be arranged by telephone. For more information consult the Academic Services website. The Archives Database can be queried online (try a "simple query" using "bishop wilton" as the keywords). This will allow you to identify what you want to look at when you attend the library. Some entries in the database are interesting to read in their own right - try it out!. HUMBER ARCHAEOLOGY PARTNERSHIP SITES AND MONUMENTS RECORD (HAP/SMR) - In Hull, this resource contains information relating to all known archaeological sites in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
