Sites of InterestSites of historic interest within the parish of Bishop Wilton have been identified using a Microsoft service that displays road maps and their equivalent using aerial photographs. Click on the link below and once the Microsoft service is activated change the mapping option from "Road" to "Aerial" and zoom in to the area with the markers (see below for help with this): As far as we know the service is based on aerial photographs taken around April/May 2007. In using the service you should be aware of the following: 1. An entry in the list does not mean that you can see anything on the ground or gain access to the site where it is on private land. The information is provided as a matter of historical record rather than as an aid to site-seeing. 2. You can zoom in by double-clicking or by moving the slider (at the top left of the map) towards the "+" position. 3. You can move around the map by left-clicking and "grabbing" the map with the hand that acts as a pointer. Alternatively, you can click on the title of a flagged site and the map will reorientate itself accordingly. 4. At maximum zoom, the aerial photographs disappear. Drop the slider down towards the "-" position a notch and they should reappear. 5. There is a 3D option which is very interesting (it shows the contours of the land and allows you to "fly" over the landscape) but you will have to download extra software. 6. The boundary markings become less clear when using the 3D option. There is an option for a 3D tour (on the left hand side of the window, above the list of sites) but you have to have downloaded the extra software (see point 5 above). Click on this and sit back, it will go to each site in turn in numerical order. You can pause it on each site number in order to read the site description (on the left) and then move on to the next one. Apologies if the service does not work for you. We do intend to list the sites of interest here along with their OS grid references. |
